Basware is looking in good shape according the their H1 2011 interim report and Q2 earnings, just released and it seems to be in an acquisitive mood. Their numbers show continued consistent growth in financial results with a net sales growth of 7.2% to EUR 53 million compared to H1 last year.

Basware has announced the first e-invoicing agreement of its kind with the State Treasury of Finland. Under the agreement, companies that do not yet have e-invoicing capabilities, can send their invoices to the state in electronic format, free of charge. Using the Basware Supplier Portal, even the smallest suppliers can now easily shift to e-invoicing and start to benefit from optimized cash flow, better working capital management and lower processing costs.

Purchasing InsightThe press releases from Iron Mountain recently raised a few eyebrows amongst the e-invoicing community. The announcement that they were to set up a 500 person strong unit in Europe to offer e-invoicing services to business was met with some surprise. Well, it seems, according to a source close to what is going on, that the U.S. based firm, known for it's traditional archiving offering, is coming to play in the relatively mature e-invoicing market in Europe with its eyes wide open. We understand that Iron Mountain will be bringing a number of products to the market, underpinned by a strategic alliance with Basware, one of the leading, established e-invoicing players.

Purchase to Pay, P2P and Dynamic DiscountingFor Ariba read OB10 and for Basware read any number of open eInvoicing networks. It's a critical question. When embarking on an electronic invoicing strategy, do you choose an open network like Basware for it's interoperability with other networks or do you choose Ariba for the size of it's "private" network. The right answer isn't obvious but there is a right answer emerging and, depending on how the landscape evolves over the coming years the right answer might not be the one you think.
